How to move messages to another computer?

We use Exchange, and keep the messages on the Exchange Server (for most staff)

However, I discovered that for one staff member, Outlook had been set up to
download the messages to her computer.

We've given her a new computer, set it up to keep messages on the server.

Question: How do I move her old email messages to the new computer? What
file or folder are email messages stored in? Can I move them to another
computer. I want her to be able to access old messages, while viewing new
messages, stored on server.

It's Outlook 2002 on both computers, Windows 2000 on the old one and Windows
XP on the new one.

Thank you,
Bill

What file or folder are email messages stored in?

They're likely in a PST in the (usually hidden) folder
%UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

Certainly. See if this helps:

OK, so I found the 100 Meg "outlook.pst" file. Thank you!

I assume I should copy it to the same location on the new computer.

Question: The settings are now different on the new computer. The new
computer is leaving all mail on the Exchange Server. Can I do both?

Can I copy the historical/old email to that folder? Does it Merge/work with
the current messages now stored on the Exchange Server? How do I set it up so
the user is able to see both current/recent mail (from server) and old mail,
(from this .pst file) ?

Is there a workaround? Such as a separate mailbox to keep/view the old
messages?

Thanks,
Bill

Not necessary. In fact, it could be counterproductive. The problem would
be if you overwrite an existing PST. It's best to place it elsewhere, like
My Documents\Outlook or something so that it can't interfere with any
existing data store. Once you have placed it in the folder, make sure it's
not read-only, then open it in Outlook with File>Open>Outlook Data File.

You can have your delivery location as the Exchange mailbox and add a PST,
yes.

You didn't read the web site I referenced, did you. Once you open the PST,
you'll have access to both it and the Exchange mailbox. If you wish, you
can copy the contents of the PST's folders to the corresponding Exchange
folders, then close the PST.

Thank you Brian, that did it!

I found it, copied it, opened it. Your instructions were correct and helpful.

Yes, I read the web site. It was good, but didn't specifically address
changing the settings from "download email" to "Leave mail on Exchange." I
didn't understand that it would show up in "Personal Folders."

Thank you, you're great!
