How to move a discussion board?

G

Guest

My client wants me to move the disussion board from one website to another.
I opened both sites on the servers and copied all the messages and toc, so
everything looks fine. But there is an internal message counter I don't know
how to update, so new messages posted to the copied board start from 1. Is
there an easy way to set this counter to the max message number?

Thanks a lot
Valerie

You have to publish it from one location to another using FP's http mode, as the other server/site
must have the FP extensions.

Didn't work, Thomas. Spent 3 hours ftp'ing, but the counter wasn't set to
the last post number. My question is where does it get stored? If it's on
the server, there is no way I can access it, can I? So what else can I do?

Thank you

You *cannot* ftp ... FP components such as the hit counter and discussion
board *must* be http published to a remote site that has the FrontPage
server extensions installed.

They won't work any other way. And, if the server extensions are installed,
you have corrupted them by using ftp. The remote host must repair, or, most
likely, reinstall them.

I tried both http'ing and ftp'ing but neither sets the message counter (or
whatever it's called) to the last posted. I currently have about 300
messages, I can make 300 fake ones by hand so the counter gest set but this
is what I'm trying to avoid. Would really appreciate any suggestions.

You are not reading the responses
FTP has broken the FP SE on your site and all run time FP SE components
Have your host repair the FP SE
The open you existing DW site in FP and publish using http mode in FP to the other site

Thank you, everyone. Luckily the discussion board has about 300 entries, so
I created a bunch of empty posts by hand to set the internal counter to the
number I wanted. It took less than an hour. Each message was appended to an
existing one (e.g. the 1st post was appended to 00000001.htm). Then I
republished the board to get rid of this mess. The counter stayed set to the
number I wanted, so all works now.
