How to modify the extension of a file in Win 2000?

I asked my correspondent, who is on Win 2000 (I am on Win XP) to rename a
file before emailing it to me, because it is a .exe file and I can not
receive it, it is blocked by Outlook 2003. But she tells me that the
extension does not appear, therefore she can not suppress it.

Options:

1. Have her zip the file and send the zip.

2. Have her show her extensions. Tools--Folder OPtions--View--uncheck
"Hide file extensions..." In Windows Explorer

3. Level1Remove exe from Outlook.
