How to modify display of Holidays in Calender

I like to setup my screen with the navigation pane on the screen as well as
the preview screen. When specific events / appointements are present for a
given date, in the navigation pane, that date is shown as bold.

Is it possible to make the dates with holidays display in the navigation
pane as bold as well? I'm planning on modifying the .hol file to add company
holidays (day after thanksgiving for example) but I can't seem to get the
holidays to display on the navigation pane without creating all-day events on
each holiday (and this seems redundent to have do)...

A holiday is an all day event. What you need are Busy events. They can't be
created using the HOL file. You can set them as busy after installing.
