Happy Retired Man

Hello

Since Dec. 23, 2003 I have already 18,694 messages in this
microsoft.public.windowsxp.general news group.
My DBX file size is now 17,567 kb.

Options: Maintenance: are
Compact Messages in the Background : Checked
Delete New Messages after 5 days after being downloaded
Compact Messages when there is 20% wasted space.

Is this setting normal?
Few days ago it was only 16,000 plus messages.
If there is better way to manage this message numbers,
please tell me.

Thanks in advance

Right mouse click on the ng name, pick "properties", then tab: Local
File. Should be obvious from there.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

Hi,

I usually disable the background processes. If they occur while you are
downloading new messages, sometimes they can corrupt the mail store.
Instead, create a newsgroup rule and apply it periodically. Click
tools/message rules/news, then create a rule to delete messages older than 5
days. Then select your new rule and click "apply now". Use the browse button
to select the group or server, then click "apply now" and let it run. When
finished, close the rules, click file/work offline, then file/folder/compact
all folders. When completed, undo the work offline and continue on. Do this
periodically, the rule will not run automatically, though it will have the
effect of not showing posts that are way out of date when downloaded (you
won't see it if someone posts a future-dated post by more than 5 days).

Disable Background Compacting and frequently perform a manual compact of all
OE folders while "working offline". More at
