I apologize; for some reason, I got the impression that numbering
*disappeared* as you pressed Enter (which would be fixed by the instructions
in my previous reply).
To restore the ability to use the TAB key, do this: Click the Office button,
and then click Word Options. Click the Proofing category. Click the
AutoCorrect Options button. On the AutoFormat As You Type tab, check the
"Set left- and first-indent with tabs and backspaces" option. Then click OK
twice.
