I have XP pro. I want to limit my child to use the computer too many hours of
a day. So how do I limit a user account, so my child can log in to the
computer a specific time of a day? thanks!

Actually two parts to the question -- limiting when your child can
log on is easy -- check out
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/tips/xp_restrict_users.htm

Forcing them to logoff at the end is more of a problem.
There are a number of third party utilities out there that
can do that or you can run a batch file at a scheduled time
to log them off if they are still on but that requires some
work also. Check out the link above and work from
there.

Try the Windows XP Shared Computer Toolkit, you can find info at
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sharedaccess. The toolkit was
originally developed for schools and libraries. However, when you
download this free product it includes a 100 page handbook with a
section that covers use in the home for limiting access. You can set a
user account to log off after xx minutes of use or xx minutes of idle
time. You can also restrict access to drives, internet or other
programs. I've only been using it for a month and am using a subset of
capability. Initially I setup an administrator account strictly for
games that need the extra access. I put a limit on how long they can
play the games. Has been working pretty good thus far. I was able to
limit the account to only play the games.
