How to keep a form field from shifting fields to the right

I have created a Word Form and can see in Options for each field how to set a
maximum number of characters. However, when the field is filled in, it
causes subsequent fields to move to the right or drop town to the next line.

How do I prevent this? I need the fields to remain static and would like
the cursor to auto-tab to the next field if/when the maximum number of
characters is reached

Insert the formfields inside the cells of a table with fixed cell
dimensions.
