How to join MPEG and VOP files?

Could someone please give me a hand to get the following done:

1) What software is used to join two or more MPEG files into one after
downloading AVI formatted videos/movies?

2) What software do I need to convert a DVD to DiVx format after
ripping? Up to now I have used Nero to create DVDs. However, the recoding
process is too time-consuming. I have purchased a DVD player that can read
DiVx files.

Thanks in advance,

S. Rindler

I would recommend popping over to videohelp.com and having a look
around to see what you can get freeware-wise. Sorry, not familiar with
VOP [that's correct, right? Or do you mean VOB - which are really just
MPEG-may need to rename extension *.VOB to *.mpg/*.MPEG for some
proggies to recognize them.]

Anyway, to join MPEG you can use any number of freeware programs. One
of the best is TMPGENC [30-day SW that turns into freeware MPEG-1].
It's good, and very fast.

VirtualDub is an EXCELLENT totally freeware AVI joiner. Again, see
videohelp.com for how-to's. [I can't recall if it supports MPEG
joining, sorry. I think it sorta does with workarounds.

If you want the Hummer of programs, you gotta go with $$ like Canopus
ProCoder, TMPGENC, Pinnacle, etc. They're all very good, but not free.
Quality with Canpous [my fave] is excellent, also very fast. But,
again, $$ and not freeware.

Another simple freeware joiner is CombiMovie. It does a decent, and
fast job.

For converting to DVD structure from AVI, MPEG, etc. for free, I'd
recommend taking a look at: DiVXToDVD [freew]. It's quite good, and
fast. It'll get you those DVD-read-to-burn files very quickly. I
believe you can do batch in DiVXToDVD by holding down Shift key while
selecting. As I recall, you need to select items in reverse order.

Sorry, mis-read last part of your post. For a ripped DVD to DiVX, head
over to videohelp.com OR afterdawn.com and have a look-see what's good
& free.

Thanks for all your suggestions... will check it out right away.
Of course, it is VOB. But I also get 24,000 hits in Google when searching
for VOP!:)
