HOW TO INSTALLL

Hi, I'm pretty much experianced when it comes to formatting and installing
systems, I can also install hardware too, but when it comes to installing
and setting a wireless connection I'm at a total loss. As I don't know
exactly how to ask this question on the microsoft support site, I'm asking
here for someone to direct me to an appropriate site and or documentation
where I can read and learn how to do what I want to do.
What do I want to do? Glad you asked!

My main computer (a desktop) is connected to the internet on an adsl line
using a standard adsl modem.
I want to setup a wireless internet connection for my laptop. Both machines
are using XP Home.
The only thing I know at this stage is that my standard adsl modem will have
to changed.
I believe I'll need a modem/router or special modem and a router.
Sorry for being so longwinded, I'm trying to be clear.
Any help appreciated.
TIA

The modem adsl modem will remain the same but you will need a wireless
router I recommend linksys just worked with them more then any other
wireless router. You will also need to contact your your dsl company
because they have to tell you how to change your modem to bridge
modem. This is a known factor with most dsl modems they need to be
reconfigured to work with dsl modems. The rest is just configuring
your router.

Generally; you connect your modem to a reuter that has both wireless &
ethernet connections
You can then connect PC's by ethernet or wireless.
Or you can replace your modem with a wireless one then all PC's would need a
wireless card (assuming the modem does not have ethernet)

Run output cable from "adsl" to input of the wireless router you will
have purchased that also has 4 ports for wired output. Run one output cable
from router to main computer. Install a wireless receiver card in
laptop--not needed if laptop has wi-fi already built in. Now enjoy i'net on
both comp's. BTW: I'm assuming you will buy a wireless router with one
input on back side and 4 wired outputs on front side,; one I'm using & had
great service from is a Belkin FD7230-4. Following its directions, I had to
know NO numbers, like "164.68.4532"; had that occasion arisen, I'd then been
on the phone with Belkin begging for help. HTH & good luck. s
