The windows XP has been removed from my computer and my cd rom drives do not
work. The computer does not recognize my windows XP cd so I can not install
the windows or boot from the cd. I could boot my computer with the 6 floppies
but it asks for the CD after that but the CD is not recognized. The CD is
bootable and works on other computers.
I get a msg :Missing operating system....because the C drive was formated.
Is there any way that Win XP could be installed from something other than CD
like a floppy?
I am not that good with technical issues thats why I dont want to swap hard
drives to install the operating system using my other computer. If I could
work around that that would be great.
Please help.

It's not possible to install WinXP without the CD, unless you can
somehow copy the CD's \i386 folder to the computer's hard drive. I
suggest that you replace the defective CD drive, or make sure that it's
cabled and jumpered correctly.

You have several options:
- Take your PC to a computer shop and have the CD drive fixed, or
- Acquire the necessary skills to install your hard disk in some other
PC so that you can copy your WinXP CD to your hard disk, or
- Ask an expert to re-install WinXP for you.

Usually you can not boot from a CD drive if it is not in the boot order of the
BIOS.
Enter your BIOS......the way to enter is usually displayed on the DOS screen
when you start your system.
Its usually on the advanced bios set up page under ???boot
order........1st/2nd/etc
check to see if it is set......if not set it as 1st or 2nd device and rebbot
with the XP Cd in place.
Look for a message that basically says push any key to boot from CD
