I have a retail version of XP Pro (No service pack on CD) and would like to install it to a 160gig HD. The installer only sees 131gig. I have found out that SP1 has 48-bit LBA which is needed to install HD's larger than 137gig. Is there a way to enable or add large HD support during install of XP Pro like there was with Windows NT 4.

Just install it, then later you can adjust the partition size with a patitioning tool. I use Partition Expert from www.acronis.com.

You can not use XP's disk management tools to do it, you will need a 3rd party tool.

Why do you need the entire 160 GB for XP? Split it up, it will make life easier if you do.

I have multiple HD's and really did not want to partition this one. Oh well. I have been all over Microsofts site and it looks like it can't be done. Thanks for the help

Heck I have 4 HDDs installed on my machine 2-60 GB & 2-40 GB each of those is divided into 2 partitions with some free space between partitions. Makes backups easier. As I stated I do use a partitioning program. Makes it easy to increase/decrease the size of any partition.

Create a slipstreamed XP CD with SP 1 included. You will need third party
software and a CD burner.
Click on or copy and paste the link below into your web browser address bar.
Slipstream CD.

If your BIOS can only see about 137 GB of your disk, then
AFAIK nothing else will see the extra until you install an
ATA133 PCI controller card.

This was my experience, and I used the available 137GB
until I could afford controller card, then merely extended
the partition.

partition that absurdly large drive...you'd have been much better off goin
with a couple of 80's.....
