I found out that slow performance when working in a word 2003 document
located on a network server can be improved by increasing the cache size in
word, which is by deafult set to 64 kb. I found instruction on how to do this
in word 2000, but they don´t seem to apply to word 2003. The instructions
suggest that I run a macro in word called ToolsAdvancedSettings under Word
commands. I just cannot find that command. How to find it or how to change
the cache size if it´s done in some other way?

I'm not sure we use that setting anymore in Word 2003, but it was stored in
the registry for the past few versions, whereas the old ToolsAdvancedSettings
dialog wrote out to an ini file that Word hasn't used for some time now.

You might want to check out KB article 834350 (slow network access to files
on WinXP) or the newer article for how to optimize Word 2003 for best
performance - KB article 827101. Go to support.microsoft.com and search on
the article number in the right hand search box.

You can try the CacheSize registry setting if you are comfortable with
altering your registry. Do this at your own risk. The setting would be under
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Word\Options]
Add a new DWORD called CacheSize, and try setting it to (decimal) 1024.

Hope you find a solution that helps!
