If you are using an Exchange mailbox, you cannot change the limit.

Sue, thanks for your suggestion. as far as I know I'm not using an Exchange
mailbox
It's a standard Outlook 2002 on Windows xp home. this limit to the number of
rules didn't exist in the previous version from Office 2000.

Hmm. I thought that the 32k limit applied only to Exchange but maybe I'm mixing up that limit with the one for DLs. If you can't create more rules, it may be time to either use a third-party tool to organize the mail or write your own.

Can you suggest any such third-party tools?

I think it is important to provide a third party tool or allow for more
space. The limit for Outlook rules is 32K, which is absurdly small. Please
provide a fix or a way to up the limit. This is a fantastic feature that can
never reach its potential without more space. If you can point me to to an
"all about rules" article or how-to, it would be greatly appreciated.

I agree completely with your comment. the limit doesn't seem to make any
sense. You can create lots of rules that are not "active" (above the limi)
and just run them manually when you come open outlook in the morning. Not a
great solution but something....

I didn't understand one of the previous posts suggesting views work better.
If someone could explain that would be helpful.
