How to have an application exit without a monitor

One of my computers that is plugged into my UPS has a CRT monitor. I do not
have the CRT plugged into the UPS. There is one application that, if it was
running, I would like to exit before the UPS powers off the computer through
the XP op sys. Is there some for me to tell an application to exit normally
when the monitor is off due to a power failure? In other words, how can I
tell a program to exit when I'm flying blind? Thanks

APC's PowerChute should handle this.

You should have a "shutdown" software configured to shut that "application"
when the UPS kicks in. I know that APC Smart-UPS line has an expansion
adapter (Share-UPS) when up to two addition PCs can be told to shutdown when
power fails.
