I have Build 5384 x64 Beta 2. I notice there is a new build out there. How
can I get it thru the customer review program?

Only Microsoft approved beta testers have access to new VISTA interim builds.

You can't. To get it you'd have to use what MSFT considers a "non legit"
means of grabbing it. They exist. It's the same way that MSFT employees use
to children and relatives of MSFT employees use to steal music and
moves--particularly the children and relatives of those in the general
counsel's office who make a big show of hunting pirates like Associate
General Counsel Nancy Anderson.

MSFT isn't making interim CTP builds avail to the public. RC1 is part of
the CPP, available to those who downloaded Beta 2 from MSFT. I have no idea
after that what will be public, but the CPP is driven by marketing and
sales. Consider it a bill board.

you probibly wouldnt even notice the difference unless you do
alot of performance monitoring.

That is not true. New build 5472 has an huge performance improvements over
the very old build 5384! 5472 is huge faster and lighter than 5384.

Hallo,

please take a look to http://www.torrentscan.com

there you can find all Windows Vista Builds, if you can`t get them from
Microsoft.
There I found my Build 5472 also. Take your old serial.

Kev, we all know this. Quit harping on it. Anyone who wants to buy an MSDN
subscription does so for a variety of reasons, but just to get Vista is not
one of them.

Really? LOL and how the hell would they do that Colin? Have you ever
noticed that many of the "you'll have to ask them about answers you see in
the media are made knowing that there is no way in hell that the person
could?

This means of getting some but not all CTP builds also requires paying MSFT
a minimum of $600-700 which is out of a reach of a large percent of people,
and the tools are value packs they would get would be of no use to them. I
wouldn't recommend joining MSDN and spending the $700 and up unless you were
a developer.

No one here can answer.

For a lot of questions Colin, no one at Redmond *will answer.* Thurott has
weighed in btw on the "Is Vista Ready Question".

http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/winvista_ready.asp

Personally I find it considerably more of a hassle to

1) Have to explain problems on a newsgroup repeatedlyl for Vista rather than
for them to fix the thing before they release
2) Have to put up with the problem and wait for a slew of patches that will
issue between whatever is RTM and a year or more from then and also have to
read that many more MSKBs to add to the already thousands I've read and have
in a stable ready to sling the link when needed to help.

Sure you can do that. But why are you suggesting (you aren't giving the
whole story there) that someone buy an $800 membership in something simply
to get a copy of the pro's version of Vista Beta?

Let me make this CLEAR to people:

There is no advantage for the average user to get 5472 of the beta. This is
BETA software people. To be honest, I agree with MS for charging for the
beta downloads...It will weed out a few people (not many, but a few) who
will download the betas and then run around telling people not to get the
final release because they didn't like the beta. You won't be upgrading
your system by getting it, unless you are an IT pro who needs to see
something a bit closer to RC1. One of the posts of this one declared that
he/she was having good luck with 5384. 5472 will not make things much
better for you. I have used both and, as for standard users, you will not
see much difference other than some performance issues, which will be in
RC1.

WAIT FOR RC1...the same as everyone else is doing. Don't spend the money to
purchase a higher level of access if it's not something you make money
doing, like those who are creating software or hardware for use on Vista,
it's a REALLY stupid idea.

It's kinda the American Way isn't it? Buy your way past the rope line/Buy
your way to the VIP room/Buy your way into the country club>Commercial bad
mommy slights you at the slidin' board>Buy your way to some kind of
equilibrium and self respect by getting a Hummer 2 (to mow "bad mommy down"
and kick her ass at the slidin' board?>/Buy a new set of boobs no matter
what the original size/No matter how goofey the surgeon tacks up the
pectoral muscles?

Alex Hamilton's will get the Softies attention. They can sniff money.
That's what Vista has morphed into--a money piece of crap instead of a
polished sophisticated OS.

And enterprises ain't gonna slurp up the migration according to every
serious study. Billy, Stevie
B, and little Stevie Sinofsky have seen them.

Why do you always have to stick your nose in Colin?. Have you been
appointed the MS mouthpiece?.
For goodness sake I was asking "Cary Frisch [MVP]", and I would like an
answer from him/her.

Raven--

There are plenty of people who are MVPs who write some of the defnitive
books on Vista (one whose book has pre-sold over 900,000 copies) who are not
running around telling people not to get the final release but are running
around telling MSFT to back up the release, take their time, start drilling
into some of the important bugs they have given up on fixing, and to put out
a decent Vista instead of a half baked piece of crap.

There are a lot of TBTs, who are a far cry from IT Pros (some lack the most
basic Windows skills) who are using every build who don't need to see
something closer to RC anything, but just want to be in on the action, hope
they get a free one, and feel good if they have the latest build sitting on
their box whether they do much with it or not bug wise or other wise.
