How to get rid of <span lang=...>?

How can I get rid of <span lang="de">...</span>? The text is in
german, and the default page language is german. The span appears only
on some texts on this page, but not all. I have no idea, what makes it
occur. When I edit german sites, I have the german keyboard layout and
language acitvated, of course. The smap does not hurt browswers, but
it looks unprofessional.

I forgot to say that I am using MS Expression Web.
