How To Get New Product Key

There was a long discussion on here recently about getting a new Product Key.
Support personnel said it could not be done...if you lost it or it was never
included with your computer, then you were out of luck. I just got off the
phone with Microsoft Customer Service at (800) 936-5700. I had a MS Office XP
Professional w/Publisher version 2002 OEM Product...3 disc set. The two
Product Key numbers on the CD case would not work. It took approximately 5
minutes of answering some questions regarding my name, company, address, etc.
I was put on hold for 2 minutes and then provided with a new Product Key. And
it worked fine. And there was no charge.

Depends on your situation and what proof you have of ownership and/or how
well you can gloss over the finer points.
Anything is possible.

Thanks for the info, but I am not so sure the results would be the same for
XP the OS. I have heard of keys and sometimes media being replaced if the
OEM has gone out of business. It never hurts to ask.

Please explain "gloss over the finer points". That sounds a bit like an
accusation. If I'm wrong, I apologize.

'Glossing over the finer points' -=> not telling the complete truth or
avoiding a situation where you might have to say something that you know
would make your case invalid - at least to those you are speaking to.

My post was not an accusation - it is a statement of fact of two ways
someone could be able to do what you have posted you acomplished.

As I stated - it 'depends on your situation and what proof of ownership you
have' THEN I sais "and/or" 'how well you can gloss over the finer points.'
"and/or" is a choice in methods.. not an accusation of which one you took -
but possible paths to get to the endpoint you say you have gotten to. I
didn't imply anything about you or how you accomplished what you did - I
gave the two broad ways anyone could accomplish it..

Are there other ways? Possibly - but they probably all fall under those two
umbrella ways in some fashion. =)
