How to fix a problem with the autonumber column in Access 2000

when importing data I have aquired an error in my autonumber coulmn in an
access database. Now the numbers are not counting up in order, infact there
is a very long number in place. How do I fix it?
 
you can compact and repair.. or if you're sick and tired with MDB
flakiness; I would reccomend Access Data Projects
