I use firewire to capture 1 hr movie from my mini-dv and
save as .avi file to keep it as original quality. The
size of the file is about 13GB. After I do the editing
and save the file as .avi, it is about 12GB. The capacity
of a DVD is only 4.7GB. I use MyDVD 4.0 to burn DVD. How
can I compress the 12GB file to a 4.7GB DVD to keep as
high quality as possible?

You use your third party DVD burning software which will re-encode the AVI
file into the MPG format which the DVD uses..... Read your Sonic MyDVD
manual.

Where I can find the MyDVD manual? The MyDVD disc comes
with the DVD burner and it has no manual.

Wilson,

Just import your video and burn it. You will get the highest
quality video that MyDVD is capable of producing. When
transcoding imported media, it uses the highest quality setting.
