how to find out what is causing a sound on win 2000?

I have opened the control panel in win 2000 to see what the heck has been causing a "notify.wav" sound to continually go off (every 30 seconds or so) and can not find the application that might be sounding it. Is there any other applications that Control Panel does not know about that could help me determine what is causing the sound to go off?

If you're asking whether or not the application/program which is invoking
the notify.wav file, might not be listed inside the control panel, then the
answer is yes. Why not try temporarily renaming notify.wav, and see if the
program (that's invoking it) gives you an error message.
