How to erase hard drive

My wife has a couple of computer systems in her office that have been
replaced but contain company data. She would like to donate them to charity
but before this can be done the data would have to be removed completely
without the possibility of any recovery software restoring this info. Any
ideas. Thank you.

1. Remove the hard drive and burn it.
2. Check Google for "Wipe+Hard+Drive" tools. Many are free.

Johns-Hopkins replaces about 75 computers per year. They've tried all manner
of disposal options - including gifting to charity. The procedure that works
best for them is to simply leave the machine on the curb for the urban
faeries.

Donating machines to charites has some downsides: the paperwork is onerous,
you may get calls from the new owner about how to work this and that.

Dilbert, at the suggestion of his boss, leaves his surplused machines on a
schoolyard playground at night (boss did it with a refrigerator).
