How to encrypt a DVD

Does anyone know how to encrypt a DVD that you make? Like how the ones that
you rent or buy are encrypted.

Why bother, the encryption on commercial DVD's is so weak that a freeware
program can crack them. So basically anything you do would be just as easy
to crack.

Encryption offer no protection at all. There are literally dozens of
freeware apps that will bypass any encryption that you place.

Whereas both the above answers are true, sometimes adding encryption helps
against the not so tech savvy users of dvd's.
As for adding it, it depends on how much you want to spend. You need a high
end dvd authoring app which suppports encryption, pay for a license from
macrovision, output to digital linear tape, send this off to a replication
(not duplication) house to be mastered.

And after going to all that trouble and expense have the average person
defeat your encryption in mere seconds.

I just thought that there was a simple program to use. I won't bother with
it.
Thanks though.

Steve I did say your answer was true, but neither of you answered the
question put, which was how to encrypt a dvd, and I think I made it clear
that it wasn't easy or cheap.

Although I would take you up on the average person??? What is the average
person, my son could do it in seconds, my Dad couldn't do it in a lifetime,
my Brother, a very well educated managing director of a multi-national
company would be able to do it after spending lots of time
researching/reading/learning, but would give up after a few minutes and not
bother as his time would be worth far more than the effort put in and he'd
just buy another copy.
Just my opinion from the thousnads of people I deal with :)

Really, I found the right program in less than five minutes and the fact
that this freeware program will defeat any DVD encryption is my entire
knowlege of DVD encryption so I guess our perspectives on average are
different. However I would hazard a guess that even the technically inept
would have easy access to somebody who would more than willing copy this
encrypted DVD, assuming it would occur to the technically inept to copy a
DVD. Fact is is my answer was better because although there are ways to
encrypt a DVD the encryption technology is so weak its like you are not even
encrypting it, basically the ripping technology is so good, there is no such
thing, at this point, as encryption!

Course my answer was better. Why would any remotely intellegent being
consider anything else?

I make backup copies of owned DVD's for dozens of people. Not one has the remotest idea or desire to crack an encrypted DVD. The average person would not even be able to "word" their search question in a manner that would result in a link they could comprehend. What they CAN DO is take the already cracked DVD backup and make a copy with their DVD burner. So, Mr. Hughes thank you for addressing the original question in the correct manner. Has anyone found a less complicated and expensive way to encrypt a DVD backup copy?
