How to edit files in public folders

Hi,

My users try to edit attachments in any public folder and the file opens in
Read-Only'. So the users can't change the file without having to change the
name.

It appears to save it as a temp file. Once the name is changed, then we
have to re-post the file.

We are using Outlook 2003 with Office 2000 Professional. I've tried
dragging and dropping and using the Post feature. Both methods will work
sometimes but then other times the file will open as a 'Read Only' file.

What are the steps to succesfully post and edit files in the public folders?
Thanks for the help!

Exchange is not a file server and I don't recommend you pursue this route -
public folders are a good place to store 'static' files, but don't expect it
to work well if your users need to edit the data. Especially given that more
than one user may try to edit the same file at the same time.
