How to dispay FrontPage 98 webs in FrontPage 2003

G

Guest

We've used FrontPage 98 for several years, and have created several webs
including pages for www.cajun-shop.com and www.cajuncrawfishshop.com.
We've now upgraded to FrontPage 2003.
However, when we open FrontPage 2003, we don't see our FrontPage 98 webs
displayed.
Is this normal?
How do we get FrontPage 2003 to display our FrontPage 98 webs?

You would have use File Menu | Open Site and enter http://localhostt/webname locally or
http://www.cajun-shop.com for the remote site.

For the local webs, 2003 creates and stores them in a different location than 98 does.
In 98 the location is C:\FrontPage Webs\Content
In 2003 it is C:\My Documents\My Webs Therefore when you open FrontPage 2003 that's where it looks.

After you click File > Open Site, browse to C:\FrontPage Webs\Content and open the one you want to
work with.

There's some info on changing the default location for 2003 here:

File | Open. Type the URL if it is on a server, otherwise type the
filepath.

What if you want them all in the same folder..can you move them with Explorer? (from Content to My Webs)

C:\FrontPage Webs\... is only valid if using the FP PWS and not the MS PWS which uses
c:\inetpub\wwwroot as the path

However, since FP2003 can not be installed under anything less than Windows 2000, the paths listed
above shouldn't be valid, since you can't install either of the PWSs on Windows 2000 or Windows XP
and have them function correctly.

I would "Publish" them due to the difference between 98 and 2003 concerning passwords.

Correct.
However if you were transferring webs from an older machine using 98 to a newer machine using 2003
and didn't know the difference, you would probably ( as I did ) copy C:\FrontPage Webs\Content from
the old machine to C:\FrontPage Webs\Content
on the new machine and then 2003 won't automatically find them. As a result all of my disk based
webs are still at
C:\FrontPage Webs\Content on my 2k Pro FP 2003 machine. Hence my interest in the tweak that allows
you to change the default directory in FP 2003

;-)

I was thinking more for myself when I migrate 2002->2003 in a few weeks.
