I found the Instant Search is real a rubbish in Outlook2007.
It takes 50M memory in my computer also only 512M memory in my laptop.
I can't bear the slow response of OS caused by the useless Instant Search.

I hope MS could improve the memory usage of Office 2007 also with Instant
Search.

Not everyone using 2G memory!!!

Give it time to build the first index. After that it should cause very
little impact.
Look in Tools | Options | Preferences - Search Options. If you disable
indexing for all data files it should essentially be off.

My situation is excatly the oposite. I cant search a thing......
In Tools | Options | Preferences - Search Options the two data files I have
are unmarked and I cant mark them.....
I'm using XPHome.
Detailed: it worked on the first days, I noticed that it wasn't working
reacently.

Try the obvious; Tools, Options, Other, Advanced Options, uncheck the box for
show prompt for instant search. It worked for me.

A similar issue was fixed for me by uninstalling WDS 3 and then
reinstalling. I rebuilt the index afterwards.
