We are using WinXp SP2 and Windows Messenger 5.1

How can i disable "Send an Instant Message" by using a Registry Key? I found
the disable Keys for Video or File Transfer but not for disableing "Send an
Instant Message".

Thanks for Help

Consisdering that sending instant messages is the primary function of
Windows Messenger, I would assume that you would not be able to do this. You
can disable a specific service in Windows Messenger, such as Exchange 2000
IM, Communications Service or .Net Messenger Service.

Exhcange 2000:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Messenger\Client\
{83D4679E-B6D7-11D2-BF36-00C04FB90A03}

Communications:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Messenger\Client\
{83D4679F-B6D7-11D2-BF36-00C04FB90A03}

..Net Messenger:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Messenger\Client\
{9b017612-c9f1-11d2-8d9f-0000f875c541}

REG_DWORD 1 will disable and REG_DWORD 0 will enable.

Honestly don't think you can just remove the Send an Instant Message
however.

Yes i know that it sounds a litte bit crazy but i really searching for a
solution to disable the "Send an Instant Message" feature. I would use
Windows Messenger just for Status Information in connection with our
telephone solution ephone. I would like to disable the "Send an Instant
Message" and all other features for Users.

I honestly don't think it's possible without a third party program. You
could possibly try to find a programmer who would be interested in helping
you out, otherwise, I really can't think of a solution. If you just wanna
know the status of someone there are several online "status checkers" (most
of which don't work very well, but...)...

I'll keep looking around and see what I can find.
