how to disable outlook office

P

Purpledawn

I use outlook express for my e-mails and it works fine. I recently joined
motzarella.org as my newsgroup because Comcast which had a contract with
giganews is abolishing this service as of today.
My question is this: If I respond to a message in the newsgroup, instead of
the mail template for outlook express, I get the outlook office template. I
never use outlook office and there are no addresses in same. How can I fix
this so I can reply to messages with outlook express.
thanks, Monika

Go to IE Internet Properties and set OE to be the default mail and news
program.

That said, you might want to check Thunderbird out. It's similar to OE
except that it has an excellent junk filter and corrects your spelling
as you type a message. OE will not be supported anymore and will not be
updated. Thunderbird is free and can be downloaded from
http://www.mozilla.com/thunderbird. When you install Thunderbird, it
will ask you if you want to import everything from Outlook Express. It
will import everything except your passwords.

If you dont use, or wish to use Outlook, insert your Office CD, select
modify, then unselect Outlook (Dont run from PC) That will uninstall
Outlook.
As it is whenever you download office updates Outlook will be reset to the
default mail handler.

I'm not sure I understand your question, but I'll point that no
version of Outlook has ever included newsreading capability. If you
are seeing a "newsreader" within Outlook, all that's happening is that
Outlook is invoking Outlook Express for you.

Why are you responding via e-mail to disconnect the discussion from
others rather than posting your reply to the newsgroup to share your
response?

Internet Options -> Programs
Select whichever program you want as the default e-mail client.

In OE, enable the option to make it the default e-mail client.

Of course, you're asking about e-mail and yet you say you are trying to
participate in newsgroups. Newsgroup posts are NOT e-mail. Outlook
never has supports NNTP (network news transfer protocol) so there is no
way you would be using Outlook when trying to reply to a newsgroup posts
UNLESS you screwed up and chose to send an e-mail to a particular poster
(and disconnect all others from the discussion) rather than post your
reply to the newsgroup.

Thanks, I did as you advised and everything is normal again. My newsreader
is motzarella.org and now when I reply to a message, my regular outlook
express mail template comes up. All is well again.

Rather than switching to thunderbird, the OP could just uninstall Outlook.

(as hard as it might be for you to understand, not everyone likes T-bird or
wants to give up the mail client they are used to using.)

That's because you are clicking on the "reply" button (which is email)
rather than the "Reply to Group" button which posts news.

Because I expect the OP is clicking on "Reply" rather than "Reply to
Group" - an understandable confusion....

True and continue to use the flaky and unsupported OE.
(as hard as it might be for you to understand, not everyone likes T-bird

The reason I suggested T-Bird is that it is pretty similar to OE and is
supported. OE has no junk filter or real time spell check like T-Bird
does. I was just making a *suggestion*, one the OP -- or anyone else --
can take or leave.

Unsupported just means its on the obsolete list and won't be enhanced. There
is plenty of 'support' for it available for free on the internet.

If the OP wants to move on to a new client, windows live mail is very much
like OE, it is supported and it has real time spell check and a junk filter.
