Hi Franklin,
Two possibilities:
1) Start from scratch. Boot the WinXP CD, start a new installation and
remove the existing partitions (yes, both of them) and then create only one
encompassing the whole of the drive. This will also have the side effect of
losing all existing data/programs on the drive.
2) Use partitioning software to remove the existing "extra" partition, then
expand the remaining one to engulf the free space. This is a relatively safe
operation, but you should still backup anything you don't want to lose
first. This is something you cannot do with the drive tools provided with
Windows, you need a third party program.

Partition Magic

Partition Commander

Ranish Partition Manager

I use the first one, and highly recommend its use.

I have a Compaq laptop, 1700 series, with a 9 GB HD. It came with ME and
the HD had two partitions. I am in the process of upgrading my memory so I
can properly install XP. I have this thing about partitions and strongly
desire only one partition encompassing the entire drive. How do I delete
the extra partition so I can have the entire HD as C:\?
