how to deal with courrpted files on external drive

How do I remove an unseen corrupted file in the recycle bin (J:\Recycled\)
on my external hard drive (300 GB)?

Actually there are 4 such files in this bin. Also on the same hard drive is
a folder (not in the recycle bin) that appears empty but claims otherwise
and can't be deleted.

sometimes after restarting the computer, deleting becomes possible
some files when internet connection is on may be undeletable
