You can't using System Restore.

You can use third party software to create an image of your system that can
be burned to DVD though. I've tried most such imaging programs and found
that Acronis TrueImage is very good. www.acronis.com

I know I could have mentioned that Vista's backup program can do this but
personally I'd go third party!!!

Are your restore points being deleted?

As Harry points out, a permanent restore point would be an archived image of
the disk.

As long as CompletePC Backup is included in the edition of Vista the user
has.

I haven't used CompletePC Backup. It talks about the entire computer being
backed up, then presents a location to backup that would only hold the OS
partition. What does get backed up. Will those who put their data on a
separate partition still need a 3rd party backup? Looks like it, but would
like to know. I know that for most, the Vista partition is the 'Complete
PC', but it is misleading if it is a complete System backup only.

Just remember that CompletePC Backup is not available in the Home editions
and advise users accordingly.

So you can selectively image 1 or more drives? I know it is different in
that you can't selectively restore files like most imaging programs I have
used DI and Ghost.
