I have two laptops on a home network.
One runs XP pro 2002 sp2 with Office 2003. the other runs Home XP 2002 sp2
with Outlook 2002. I don't have sync software. So, I'm just trying to
munally sync a few messages. I'd like to copy individual .msg files from
one to the other. I can copy messages from the outlook 2002 maching to
outlook 2003 machine by just dragging and dropping email messages via the
network shared folders. However, I cannot copy messages going the other
way, from 2003 to 2002. I just get an error message box saying "Can't copy
the items". Anyone know how I can copy messages from 2003 to 2002? Or is
there an easier way of doing this?

What file format is Outlook 2003 using? Check under File->Data Management
on the 2003 machine. Does it say personal folders 97-2002 or just personal
folders? If just personal folders, this version is incompatible with prior
versions of Outlook. You would need to create an old style .pst file, drag
the messages there and then move them to the Outlook 2002 folders. Do NOT
change your new version to the old as the new is a great improvement on
storage limits (32 terabytes versus 2 gigs) and number of items per folder
(unlimited versus 65,000).

Hey Milly, thanks for trying to answering my questions.

I don't think that worked. The Outlook 2003 is set to "Personal folders
file". I created a new Personal folder and set it to "Outlook 97-2002
Personal File Folder". I copied a message from the original folder to the
new folder, then coped it over to the other machine running Outlook 2002 but
when I drop the message into outlook 2002 I get the same message "Can't copy
the items".

Hi RJ
I dont think that you can copy the message from 2003 to outlook 2000 because
of the unicode settings within the message...I think the only way of doing it
would be to copy and paste the contents of the email into a txt file on the
network shared drive or re-email the message to yourself and pick it up from
the Outlook 2000 machine...I am sure there is another posting on this group
that says the same thing to another person...although I might be wrong
