need Word, or Student office home, or works to read and convert them? Intend
on buying one, just need to know the right one.

Just some ideas...

If you still have the Works 4.5 disk, it
may be worth a try to install it on your
Vista machine. I'm currently running
it on my Vista partition.

Or...if you still have Works 4.5 installed
on an older system you can open the
files and do a Save As into a different
format. For example, if you have a .wks
file that was created as a Spread Sheet...
save it as...Excel SS...and you can open
it in Excel 2007.

I think i have the cd, what is the chances it won't run on vista home
premijm if i try to install it, i don't want a crash if i can help? I
imagine there is no uninstall, and i'd rather have a newer version, but i
need to read these files or convert and save? vista home premium 32 bit. I
do have the old system, just have not tried to reboot it since i got the new
one.
thanks

If you install a compatible version of Works, or a version of Word with a
old format file convertor/filter, it should read the files.
Most newer versions of Works will read the older file formats.
Once you have them open, you can save them in any compatible format of the
program they were opened with.

Most versions of Word have the convertors to access older file formats, but
in many cases, they are not installed by default.
You may need to run office setup and make sure the file convertors are
installed.
