How to convert Canon EOS 1000D H.264 MOV footages to FCP for Edit ?

I had recorded some interesting fragments with my Canon EOS 1000D and wanted to edit the vides before share with my friends. After downloaded the H.264 mov videos from Canon 1000D to Mac hard disk, and imported them to FCP for editing, But the FCP can not recognize the files.I need some advices,Thanks.
