how to convert a excel database to outlook contacts

Help with outlook

I have a database of 450 names with phone numbers and addresses in a excel
workbook. I would like to import this into my contacts in either outlook 2007
or windows live
 
in excel save as csv, in outlook - file/import export/from another program or
file/comma separated values (windows) ... etc

Save the workbook. I am not understanding Insert>Name>Define??? I feel I
am close but every time I go to outlook and try to import the contacts from
the excel spread sheet it says I need to define the fields. the top row of
my spread sheet is labels from outlook 2007 contact so I am not sure what I
am missing. Any feedback would be appreciated.

It is not there in 2007

Use the shortcut Ctrl F3(working in all Excel versions) to open the Name Dialog
and give your range a name
 
I test it also in 2007 and I notice that you can only import
Excel 97-2003 files (You not see Excel 2007 in the list)

For Excel 2007..............

First select the range of data including the headings

Insert>Name>Formulas>Defined Names.

On the Formulas Tab
In the Defined Names group click on Define name

But Ctrl F3 is easier and working in all versions

I check it with the Outlook pro's and
the new 2007 formats are not supported.
Maybe saving as *.csv would be better?

I think this will work OK Gord (no new format) but not test it.

CSV is working OK in 2007
But in Outlook 2007 it is not possible to import Excel 2007 files.

Maybe I add a page about this Gord on my Mail page with a few screenshots.
