How to control boot sequence of three servers

Hi outthere

I am the owner of a dedicated system with
one rack of three inter-dependant servers.
Compaq Proliant running W2K server.

The UPS software does allow me to control
the sequence of shutting down the three servers
in case of a power outage. But, alas, no control of
their reboots once power is re-established.

Does anyone know of a simple technique of e.g.
implementing a 0 min. winboot delay on server
1, a 1 min. delay on server 2 and a 2 min. delay on
server 3. The three servers are pretty identical
hw-wise so if booted at the same time, the boot
time is almost identical for the three Compaq
proliant servers right now. It is rather important
for my system, that the boot sequence is controlled.

My local IT guys have no proposals except doing
manual reboots.

Kind Regards

Hi,

Edit the boot.ini file on each of them and give them the
required timeout. You can also do this by right-click My
Computer->select Properties, go to Advanced tab, click
Startup and Recovery, and change the value for 'Display
list of operating systems for x seconds'

Hi - thanks for your quick answer.

Funnily enough your proposed solution dawned
upon me some 15 mins. after submitting my
post. I am somewhat embarrased for not remembering
this initially - I have actually changed the default
30 sec timeout to 5 secs on a few servers. Must
be the summer heat ;-)

So now, we will time the servers' boots and set
appropriate delays ensuring correct winboot sequence.

Thanks again

Erik
