how to continue writing in a single cell?

hi, i would like to know how to continue writing in a single cell. i am
compiling a report and have divided my spread sheet into rows and columns.
when i start entering the data(mostly words) and hit the "ENTER" button, the
cursor moves onto the next cell. i want to continue writing in the same cell
because i want to utilise the other cells for some other data. I would like
to know which options to choose so that when i hit the 'ENTER' button, it
just moves to the next line within the same cell and not the nest cell!
PLEASE HELP...i am stuck here!

Try holding down the ALT key when you hit ENTER.
