is it possible to do a remote desktop connect, and how if it is
possible, from your home network into your work network without using a
VPN?

You must ask your network administrator to do this:
- Give your work PC a fixed IP address.
- Create a tunnel at the work router or firewall that
directs port 3389 packets to your work PC.
You can then use Remote Desktop to connect to
your work PC.

Yes, but it is dependent on your work's network admins and how they have it
configured and whether or not remote logins are allowed. Check with them for
the best possible answer.
