how to connect 2 computers, one with W2K, the other one with XP

I'd like to know the procedure to connect 2 computers, one is working with
W2K professional and the other one
with XP.
Does anyone know how to do that with a cable (RJ45) ?
Both computers have a network card. How do you set up W2K and XP for that ?

Also, does anyone know how to that with an USB cable ? So that I don't have
to mess with the network cards configuration.

Thanks in advance

Direct cable connection, when using RJ45, requires a crossover cable or a network hub. As far as setting up IP's and all that, Windows has a built-in Network Configuration wizard that will set up a simple network. Go to your Network Connections control panel on the XP machine and in the File menu go to Network Connection Wizard...

There is a bunch of information at http://www.practicallynetworked.com/ like Paul said.
