Does anyone have any suggestions on how to clean the command input from Start

Run?

When I type msconfig under Start > Run, this text will maintain there, but I
would like to clean the record. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to do
it?

Clear Your Run History!
If you are someone who uses the run command (located off the Start
Menu), you'll notice that you have a run history or run list. These
are commands or paths that you have previously typed in. The run
history eliminates the need for you to type in a command or path that
you typed in previous. It's similar to the auto-complete feature in
Internet Explorer.

I recommend using TweakUI.

So how do you get rid of the run history? Unfortunately, unless you
are running TweakUI, you have to edit the registry and delete the
entries manually. To do so:

Open the registry. Navigate to the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerRunMRU.
Highlight the entry you want to remove from the run history. For
example, "a." From the Edit menu, click Delete (or you can simply
press the Delete key on the keyboard). Click Yes to confirm your
actions. Double click the MRUList value and remove the letter that you
deleted from the list. Click OK. Close the registry.

Another method that does not involve downloads or registry editing:

That would be one of many MRU (Most recently Used) lists that Windows
maintains.

When I deploy a new computer, I want all that history cleared out
including Recently Used documents, and typed in URLs so the next user
can't see what I have been up to (for security purposes of course). I
also don't want Tweak UI installed on these computers for fear they
will hurt themselves.

Another way to clear all that stuff:

If you are using the Classic Start Menu, right click the Start button,
Properties, Customize, Clear.

If you are using that other kind of Start Menu, right click the Start
button, Properties, Advanced, Clear List.

Tweak UI can be set up to clear it all every time you log off, which
may be what you want.

All methods work and end up doing the same thing, so you just have to
decide which is right for you.

START | RUN | Type 'regedit' & press ENTER

Navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer

Click on the RunMRU & delete everything in the right except DEFAULT

Now navigate to HKEY_USERS... & either SID entry (not classes) & do the same

Example:

HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-0000000000-000000000-000000000-500\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer

Click on the RunMRU & delete everything in the right except DEFAULT

[I have replaced the SID for security reasons]

Exit the Registry Editor

Hi Eric,

Clear recent documents/list.

Added info:

Clear IE History, AutoComplete, Clear the TIF, Clear the RunMRU, Typed
URL's and Clear List (depending on which Start Menu you are using): Right
click the Start button/Properties/Customize/Advanced/Recent Documents/Clear
List.
