how to check for file exist from inside a stored procedure?

hi,

im writing an CF app and using a sybase database. from inside the stored
proc i want to check to see if a file exist on the device. Can this be done?

From my knowledge of SQL there is no way to do it in a "generic" sense, but
I would consult the sybase documentation to see if there is a way.
