how to change input

general question

when i put in 10-20 in a cell excel automaticaly changes it to 20 october...i
was wonderig how do i change it
 
Either preformat the cell as TEXT or precede the entry with an apostrophe:
'10-20. The apostrophe will not be displayed in the cell.
