How to change "Always ask before opening" settings?

D

Dave

I recently made a mistake when WinXP Pro popped up with
the 'Always ask before opening this file type' message.
I believe it was that message, at least. The one that
pops up with 'Open', 'Save', and two other options. I
selected the 'Do not ask me again' checkbox, thinking
that it would take my selection as the default when I
clicked on 'Save'. Now it constantly opens all of the
type of file I was trying to download instead of saving
it as I meant it to. I've tried using different
accounts, both that were present before I made the
selection and creating new ones, however it seems that
the settings has been applied to everyone.

Any ideas where the setting for this is hiding and how to
make it start asking me whether I want to open or save
again? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Dave,

To get the download dialog box, enable the "confirm open after download" option for that filetype:

Click "Start" -> "Program Files" -> "Windows Explorer".

Then click "Tools" -> "Folder Options".

Change to the "File Type" tabs.

Scroll down to locate the file type. Highlight the filetype (example :"PPT
Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation") and click the "Advanced" button.

Then check the option "confirm open after download".

If this does not help, set the "NoSelectDownloadDir" to "0"
