How to back up contact folders in Outlook to C.D.?

Am trying to figure how to back up info in Outlook. To disk or C.D.
Tried exporting it , but it goes to Excell in an unreadable form... Help?
 
Close Outlook.
Copy your Outlook Data File (PST file) to the CD.
Never try to export to backup.
