How to assign IP to MAC addr for VPN

D

Dan

I have remote users accessing via VPN. I have an AIX server on our network
that I need to send printouts through the VPN to a printer attached to the
lpt port of the PC. The AIX box is not part of the domain but can ping the
ip address of the VPN users. The problem is that the ip address changes
each time the VPN is established.

My server is SBS2000. Is there a way to assign an IP address to a MAC
address or any other way to ensure that this user has the same IP each time
they login?

Assign it on the "dial" side manually on the interface OR assign
it particularly based on the "user name" (if in native mode.)

Where/How do I assign by user name?

In AD - Users, Properties for user, Dial-in tab and the "Assign a static IP
Address" check box is grey. Is this where I would do it? If so how do I
enable this check box? In Routing and Remote Access => Properties, IP Tab I
have:
Enable IP routing - check
Allow IP-based remot access and demand-dial connections - check
IP address assignment:
Static address pool (radio button) - slected
Then I have an address pool of 254 ip's.
But I can't figure out how to tie one ip to a user id.

You must be in Native mode (or better in Win2003) and then look
at the Users "Dial-In" tab in AD Users & Computers for the IP
address setting.
In AD - Users, Properties for user, Dial-in tab and the "Assign a static IP
Address" check box is grey. Is this where I would do it? If so how do I
enable this check box? In Routing and Remote Access => Properties, IP Tab I
have:

Native mode only, as I said.
Enable IP routing - check
Allow IP-based remot access and demand-dial connections - check
IP address assignment:
Static address pool (radio button) - slected
Then I have an address pool of 254 ip's.
But I can't figure out how to tie one ip to a user id.

On the CALLING router you can SET an IP address and then on the answering
router (Policy) allow the calling router to choose an IP. Do this on the
advanced
IP settings for the calling routers "interface" that dials the VPN.
