how to "archive" the archive folders

I currently run outlook 2003 from a Microsoft Exchange server. I have set
the archiving feature to archive my messages after a set period of time. The
problem is that I keep many years worth of emails in these archive folders,
and now the entire .pst folder is getting too large.

How should I "archive" the archive folders? I just tried to export a folder
to a .pst file. If that is a good way to archive these messages, how should
I open that .pst file if I need to look for an old email? I don't want to
import it back into outlook for obvious reasons. Should I be doing something
else?

Thanks,
JT

Perhaps Create Archive Files, named by year, then ensure current archive
setting points to correct archive
An Archive file is simply a pst named Archive
In OL File/Open/Data File browse to the archive and open it, set the Archive
options for this pst, pointing to the correct new archive then 'archive now'

Thanks DL, this is just what I need to know. I didn't realize that I have
the capability of accessing multiple pst files at the same time.

Multiple pst's dont seem to place any undue load on OL either.
I use archives named by year eg Archive2003.pst

Perhaps look at MS Desktop Search tool
