How To Align Text Boxes (Word 2002)?

B

Brian White

Hi team

I've used Word for some years but have recently 'upgraded' to OfficeXP
which includes Word 2002. For the life of me I cannot work out how to
align some text boxes I have put into a document.

In previous versions (like the one we are still running at work, Word
97), you just shift-clicked on the text boxes to select them and then,
from the drawing menu, used the align commands and voila! However, in
Word 2002, the align commands remain greyed out.

I have done some searching to try to find an answer but I haven't been
able to find a solution via Google or the MVPS website; naturally, I
do not rule out user failure and apologise in advance if that's what
happened!

I am using Windows XP Pro with SP1 as the OS and Word 2002 SP2.

Cheers

I can't recreate your problem, but you might try some of the following

Make sure all the text boxes are completely on or completely off of the Drawing Canvas

If they are completely on the canvas, you can double click on the text box that's in the place you want them to align and find out where it is on the Layout Tab--you'll get different info if it's not on the Canvas, though.

If you delete the drawing canvas, not the text boxes--you may have to move them off of the canvas first
Then, you should be able to select all the text boxes and align them

Also, make sure that the text boxes are not formatted as In Line With Text
(as crazy as that sounds, it is possible in Word 2002).
