How to add music halfway thru and have it play to the end

Using PPT 2003. I have a 60-slide ppt presentation; the first part is
advanced manually by clicking. The second part I want to advance, say, 3
seconds per slide automatically and have a song playing.

I inserted the music file in the slide where I want it to start, but it
continues to play in that slide. The slides do not advance.

I have tried telling it to play until slide "999"; I have also tried to
highlight the slides on the pane on the left of my ppt window and then
"apply" the music to "all slides" but nothing changes.

This is driving me nuts! I have been fussing with it for days.

Have you set your slide transitions to automatically occur after 3 seconds.
You want to take away the option to advance on click.

Yes I have, but they don't unless I click. (maybe because the first part is
by click?) I don't know how to single out the 2nd half to go automatic.

Try

Insert the sound onto slide xx
Double click the entry for sound in the custom animation pane and set stop
playing to after 999 slides
Hold down ctrl and select all the slides from xx onwards (including slide xx)
set the transition time to 3 secs and untick on click (not needed if you
have no other on click animations )
DONT click apply to all.

OK, I tried that and now at least the music plays on the subsequent slides,
but I still have to click to make the slides advance. It seems there should
be something to "tick" to apply the transition timing. There is no "OK"
button or anything that I see.

Hi John,

Thank you so much for continuing your interest in my plight. I did check
each slide as you suggested and they did have the :03 selected.

Perhaps the problem is with the first slide in this segment...when I 'play'
it using the custom animation pane to just play that slide, the vertical line
in the custom animation pane goes to the right, then returns again and again
to the left, as the song continues to play.

I have a title and then two subtitles on this slide. Here is the order:
title 1 comes on "with previous" then the song starts "with previous", then
the next line of text "start after previous" and the last line "start after
previous".

Hoping you still can send the magic bullet!!

Judy

Well, it still is as it was. Let me ask this: does it make any difference
that it is an mp3 file?
