how to add a word to auto text that autopopulates when I start it

I dont know how to add the word that I want to automatically populate once I
start it. I want the words to be added to the general body of letters, not
just signature lines or headers/footers ect. Like it was pre-VISTA. not sure
what we are even calling this...these days....I think it's still "auto-text"
but this feature is not as user friendly as it used to be. (well for me)

Vista is an operating system and has nothing to do with it. I assume you are
referring to autotext in Word 2007?
That being the case, autotext is still present in Word 2007, but no longer
has the autocomplete function. You can type the first few unique characters
and press F3, just as before, to enter the text, or you can pick from a list
in the building blocks organizer.
If you want automatic insertion you could investigate autocorrect instead.
