how to access a slave drive with xp?

My son came home on break from Penn State and brought his hard drive with him
from his Dell computer. He wants to get his music off the hard drive so we
hooked it up in my non Dell computer as a slave. We can see all the files on
the slave hard drive with xp except his account. Which I can't
access..."Access denied" I have tried creating an account with his logon and
password but still cannot access his files on the slave hard drive. Any ideas
on how to get his music since I knnow the logon and password?

As long as encryption isn't involved as a local administrator you can take
ownership. Explorer|"folder"|File|Properties|Security|Advanced|Owner and
take ownership.

Dave before I take ownership of his files can he reverse ownership when he
brings his hard drive back to college with him or can he just plug it back in
and boot it up?

Yes and yes. After the drive is placed back in the machine then remove the
unknown user (SID) by using the same method.
